How callous are we?

Please read my Intro found in Feb. if you are new to reading my blog.

How callous are we? Where are we right now? Why is our voice as a majority so silent, no one believes it is the majority anymore? Here we are daily in a world that is so corrupt the most extreme cases of crimes are being committed, and yet we don’t give it much thought even after we have knowledge of it. God is crying, his heart is being torn apart, and we don’t even flinch at things we should be on our knees or our faces on the floor praying so fervently for the change, that it finally starts to happen. Let’s start with some basic things we have come to deem minor, and work into the major things. How many times a day do we allow people around us to take our Lord’s name in vein with no correction, or thought that it is wrong? How many times do we possibly do it ourselves? It is common place everywhere I go in a day, or even when I turn on the TV to her “oh my God/Lord!” or “Jesus Christ!” These phrases are so common; I have heard them on children’s shows I have had to ban in my house. If we are allowing it into our homes, we are allowing future generations to continue being polluted worse, even if we as parents are trying to teach them these things are wrong. All they know is if we can do it, they should be able to do it because mommy & daddy can’t be wrong. Also, there are a minimum of 2 cuss words currently allowed to no longer be bleeped out on any television station that we could name off. Somehow this also isn’t inappropriate enough to protect our children from either. Last I checked in Psalms 101 there is a verse that reads “I will set before my eyes no vile thing. The deeds of faithless men I hate; they will not cling to me. Men of perverse heart shall be far from me; I will have nothing to do with evil. Whoever slanders his neighbor in secret, him will I put to silence; whoever has haughty eyes and a proud heart, him will I not endure. No one who practices deceit will dwell in my house; no one who speaks falsely will stand in my presence. Every morning I will put to silence all the wicked in the land; I will cut off every evildoer from the city of the LORD.” Or in children’s terms “oh be careful little eyes what you see… oh be careful little ears what you hear…oh be careful little mouth what you say…oh be careful little hands what you do…oh be careful little feet where you go for the Father up above is looking down in love.”

Now for some of the worse things. How many children are killing children? How much abuse goes on that we ignore? I couldn’t sleep after seeing an e-mail detailing how a father was so upset with his little boy he didn’t notice he was holding a wrench in his hands as he beat his boy’s hand until all the fingers ended up needing to be taken. Then the dad couldn’t live with himself and took his life. In one week this boy suffered so much, and yet it was an e-mail forward? I still have inexplicable nightmares about the details, and I did vomit after reading it. Most of the news is filled with crimes, but how many do we remember and devote some of our prayer time to? According to Ted Bundy in an interview before he was put to death “What scares me is when I see what’s on cable T.V. Some of the violence in the movies that come into homes today is stuff they wouldn’t show in X-rated adult theatres 30 years ago….especially when children are unattended or unaware that they could be a Ted Bundy; that they could have a predisposition to that kind of behavior.”

Back to more of the things we ignore daily. We know of all 10 commandments being broken on a regular basis, and yet we aren’t fighting for our children or grandchildren to be raised right. Most of us still can’t say the 10 commandments ourselves. We aren’t to have idols before God, yet how often do we give God even 10% of our day? We have shows even called Idol, and we don’t see anything wrong with being addicted to it. How many times a day do we “just have to” see a TV show, check our computer, or any other thing in our lives we allow to trump our God time?

Let’s wake up, because when we stop just living in our comforts that we enjoy, we will stop being so callous the things that should matter will matter again. The fact is Christians still make up 86% of the world’s population, and yet our voice isn’t being heard even in our own country that was founded on our Lord’s principles. Here are the 10 commandments for a refresher

1. You shall have no gods before me

2. You shall not make for yourself a carved image; any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

3. You shall not misuse the name of the Lord you God

4. Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy

5. Honor your father and mother

6. You shall not murder

7. You shall not commit adultery

8. You shall not steal

9. You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor

10. You shall not covet anything that is not yours

DISCLAIMER: I am not against the show Idol. There are people who watch the show, living their lives as they should. We can always grow, but most of us have gotten too comofrtable; which is the main point.
